My world turned upside down in 2018, in response, I created work about my journey caring for both ill-aging parents (cancer and dementia) while juggling duties as a wife and mother of three.
There are some artists that convey pure trueness, and Anna’s truth, a painful one, is there in her work–a gift to the onlooker. The “Sandwich Generation” is real. Anna’s art blends the hardships with moments of levity, mirroring real life.

March 6, 2020, Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble’s world premier of ‘Filial’ at the First Church Boston. This was a new work based on 13th-century Confucian Filial Exemplars, ancient Chinese parables intended to model children’s proper behavior towards the older generation. These texts were paired with a final reflection on filial identity in the contemporary Asian-American experience. The piece featured a mix of puppetry styles: large mask heads, object theater, and ceramic mixed media puppets. Libretto by Anna Wang, Music by Dr. Hubert Ho.
2019 National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, I was honored to be an Emerging Artist working on scenes from my musical. The two songs performed were “Will He Remember Me?” and “Dementia Piranhas”. Lyrics by Anna Wang, Music by Dr. Melissa Dunphy.
